Review: Medplaya Piramide
Page Content
The Medplaya Piramide hotel impressed me because it is a really unusual looking building and inside it is very clean and modern with a real arty feel to the décor. It had pleasant poolside music when I visited that was very relaxing in comparison with some of the other hotels in Salou that I visited that had more of a party atmosphere.
The building is unique in that it is trying to be modern, but I think still looks a little dated. The good thing is you can't miss it as it has soaring blue and orange pillars and is a very unusual shape. There's lots of reflective glass windows, giving it a space-age effect.

The reception is spacious and a nice feature is that there are lots of colourful pictures on the walls. If you look up once inside reception you'll see a soaring glass wall and internal balconies opposite that have views across to the glass wall.

Hotel Facilities

The hotel has 2 good sized swimming pools and the hotel building is surrounded by plenty of grass which is a fairly unique feature in Salou. There's a lot of seating and sunbathing space too.
Facilities inside the hotel include a room with arcade games, pool tables and next to that, a big buffet style dining area. There's a fun pub with entertainment and a snack bar next to the pool.

Children have the option to join the children's club and there is entertainment all day such as billiards, table tennis and darts competitions. There's even bingo! The hotel is modern throughout.
There is parking for free in the street outside but it is limited. There's a pay car park opposite, and the hotel has its own indoor carpark.
There's a desk where you can by tickets to nearby attractions including Port Aventura theme park.
Facilities For The Disabled

There are 5 rooms that have been specially adapted for disabled access. They have wide entry doors and showers that can be accessed in a wheelchair. The entire hotel is wheelchair friendly.
Rooms
There are 230 rooms and they all have balconies that are more spacious than most I saw during my time in Salou. They are also all outward facing. The rooms all have a telephone, air-conditioning, satellite TV, safe, minibar, internet connection and en-suite bathroom with a hairdryer.
Hotel Location And Facilities
It's about 10 - 15 minutes walk to the beach, and opposite there are other apartments but before them is a green grassed area with small trees.
The nearest shops and bars are about a 5 - 10 minute walk away in the direction of the beach. You can turn right (and right again) or left (and left again) out of the hotel and either way will take you in the direction of the Llevant beach and towards the main commercial centre where you'll find shops, banks, bars and restaurants.
To get to the Port Aventura theme park it is a 10 minute drive and there are also 4 golf courses within 30 minutes drive.
How To Travel From The Airport To The Hotel
Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 30 minutes.
Taxi fare: €36.00
Via bus: There's a bus that leaves from outside the arrivals lounge and travels to Salou via La Pineda. The bus does a round trip back to the airport again. The journey should take about 35 - 40 minutes.
Single ticket: €2.05
Via train: The train station in Salou is a 10 taxi ride from the Medplaya Piramide Hotel. There are no trains from the nearest airport of Reus, but the station is served by trains from Tarragona and Barcelona.
In A Nutshell
The Medplaya Piramide is a hotel with a pleasant relaxed atmosphere. It is 1o minutes walk away from the hectic centre of Salou which allows you to choose between relaxing by the pool or heading into the town centre if you feel like you need to immerse yourself in the nightlife and shopping. The hotel has excellent facilities for families and couples.
