Review: Playa De Oro
The Playa De Oro is quite an old hotel and this is reflected in its décor which is rather 70s. It’s got a nice pool area with some pine trees dotted about and when I went there was quite a party atmosphere round the pool with loud music. It’s only 5 minutes walk to the nearest beach and you are also only 5 minutes for one of the main streets in Salou.
The full name of the hotel is actually the Playa de Oro Park Hotel.

The hotel will prepare you a picnic for the following day if you let them know at reception before 19:00. The picnic is included in the price of your stay if you are full board, which is good because it means you don’t have to stay at the hotel all the time and can venture out without missing the meal you have paid for.
At reception you can buy tickets for Port Aventura and they will also arrange car hire for you.
There’s a restaurant and a bar-café, 2 pools (one for children and one for adults), lifts with panoramic views, a garden area and parking.
Rooms
There are several hundred room at the Playa de Oro Park Hotel, and they are comfortable and have cooling tiled floors. There are pictures on the walls and the room I saw had colourful matching bedding and curtains. There are patio doors that lead out onto the balcony, where you’ll find a plastic table and chairs for relaxing and enjoying the view. Many rooms look out onto the pool.
Each room has an en-suite bathroom, telephone, central heating, piped music and optional satellite TV.

Opposite the hotel is a supermarket. There’s fun bar called ‘The Mad Scotsman’ and you’ll find a public telephone box, and a post box. There’s an Irish bar too and you can walk to the bus stop (to take the bus to various destinations) in 5 minutes.
The popular theme park of Port Aventura is a 10 minute drive away. So is the adjoining water park called Caribe Aquatic park.
You’ll also find 4 golf clubs less than 30 minutes drive from the Oasis Park Hotel in Salou.
The Llevant beach is within a 15 minute walk. This is a long stretch of sandy beach. Within 5 minutes walk you can also get to the smaller more sheltered coves of Platja dels Campallans and Platja del Llenguadets.
How To Travel From The Airport To The Hotel
Via Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 30 minutes and cost around 25 euros.
Via bus: There’s a bus that leaves from outside the arrivals lounge and travels to Salou via La Pineda. The bus does a round trip back to the airport again. A single ticket is 5.50 euros. The journey should take about 35 - 40 minutes. The hotel is to the far east of the resort of Salou. If you get off the bus at the end of the Llevant beach you can take a taxi for 5 minutes to the hotel.
