Review: Calypso Med Playa Hotel Salou
The Calypso hotel Salou is in a residential area of Salou. The first impression you get on entering this hotel is the spaciousness of the lobby. There’s also a colourful and large impressive painting on the wall to the right as you enter, of a woman lying down. This is a friendly and welcoming hotel with excellent services for families.
Hotel Facilities
The swimming pool is down and to the right after you enter. The pool has a separate splash pool specially for children which is shallower. There’s a pool bar outside. There’s a large pool with a shallow end that is safe for children, and a picturesque garden. The hotel has an indoor games room, bowling, pool tables and table football. You’ll also find a playground for children and a shop where you can buy souvenirs. Inside the hotel you can buy souvenirs. At night time there’s a good choice of entertainment. On offer when I visited was karaoke, mini-disco for children and singers. There’s also pool tables. The hotel has 2 restaurants. One is a buffet style restaurant and the other is for more upmarket dining. Facilities For The DisabledThere are rooms specially adapted for disabled use. RoomsThere are 514 rooms and each has en-suite bathroom with toiletries, balcony, air-conditioning, safe, satellite TV and telephone. There’s the option to book an adjoining room which is handy if you are with your family. You can also request a fax machine. Views from the rooms are either to the pool or to the street. The hotel is on a road that can get busy but you can’t hear the noise inside. The view across the road is to pine trees. The nearest shops and bars about 5 minutes walk to the left and the beach is about 10 minutes walk away. You can get to Port Aventura theme park in 10 minutes by car or taxi. Next to Port Aventura is the water park called Caribe Aquatic park. How To Get From The Airport To The HotelVia Taxi: A taxi from the airport should take about 30 minutes and cost around 25 euros, depending on traffic this could take an extra 10 minutes in the peak of summer. Via bus: There’s a bus that leaves from outside the arrivals lounge and travels to Salou via La Pineda. The bus does a round trip back to the airport again. A single ticket is 5.50 euros. The journey should take about 35 - 40 minutes. Via train: The train station in Salou is a 10 minute taxi ride from the Calypso hotel Salou. There are no trains from the nearest airport of Reus, but the station is served by trains from Tarragona and Barcelona.
